Good morning team,

In this installment of A Byte's Life I am addressing the super awesome question that popped in everyone's mind after the recent security changes with the new wireless infrastructure. Why can I not get the Staff's WiFi password?

Well, here again, feel free to grab a delicious treat and/or your favorite beverage and enjoy this small article about the exciting world of cyber security!

Per the last article, we noticed that during and after the pandemic more security threats surged to target end users directly because we were all trying to stay connected, but safe inside our homes so, we were purchasing or subscribing to even more services online; and because bad actors are always bored and seeking to stick it to someone (and the more people they stick it to the more exciting it is for them!) they didn't want to miss out on this new opportunity!

Introducing...

Third-Party Exposure!

What is it??

Cybercriminals can get around security systems by hacking less-protected networks belonging to third parties that have privileged access to the hacker’s primary target.  One major example of a third-party breach occurred at the beginning of 2021 when hackers leaked personal data from over 214 million Facebook, Instagram, and Linkedin accounts. The hackers were able to access the data by breaching a third-party contractor called Socialarks that was employed by all three companies and had privileged access to their networks. (Embroker.com, 2023)

Again, even if you don't directly work with what you might think as privileged data, we can be the portal for bad actors to get to the actual user and/system that contains our privileged data.

The moral of the story and rule of thumb in Cyber Security, never trust external devices.

Again, the biggest security risk on any network is us, the end users. ??‍♀️

Well, that's it... not a long article after all!

Please feel free to keep your questions to yourself but know that I love you all. (Just kidding, please let me know what questions you may have ? )
